#33 Cont'd More Pictures

3493  This is one of the North staircases, one of four, each in the middle of a side of the monument.  If you look closely you can see that the people are passing through the arch less entrance to Alley 1.  Above them you can make out the arch to Alley 2 just beyond the highest umbrella, you can see some people in the arch to Alley 3 and only the tip of the arch to Alley 4 can be seen above that.  At the bottom right you can see part of  one of the traditional protective lions that guard each set of stairs.

3494  These are the double chain of reliefs that are only on the inner wall of Alley 1.

3499  This is the outer wall of Alley 1.  The reliefs on top are about the same size as the two on the inner wall but the lower row is much narrower.  You can see that in general this wall is shorter but some of the balustrades extend to the same height as the inner wall.

3511  This is the panel that shows Siddhartha being honored by the gods and received in Nirvana as Buddha.

3518  This is how the inner walls of Alley 2, 3 & 4 appear, one row of reliefs and Buddha niches above that.  These reliefs are a bit taller than the double rowed style on Alley 1.  You can see that restoration work is still going on here on Alley 3.
